Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Published Tuesday, January 25, 2011 - Bill Bruyn passed away at this residence Sunday at the age of 79. He was born on Aug. 9, 1931, in Bogalusa, La., to Robert and Gladys (Burge) Applewhite. Following high school graduation, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country form March 1, 1950, to Dec. 4, 1953. Bill worked for Raley’s Super Store for 39 years as a meat cutter in Antioch, Calif. In 1992, Bill and his wife, Sheryl, moved from Oakley, Calif., and made Lake Havasu City their home. Bill loved water sports; enjoying many hours boating, skiing and diving. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sheryl; son, Christ Bruyn and his wife, Lilia, of Tucson; daughters, Dana Bruyn, of Kona, Hi., and Shelley Bruyn Tyler, of Monterey, Calif.; sister, Claudia Zumwalt and her husband, Del, of North Dakota; grandchildren, Chantelle, Kyle, Christian, Sienna, Michael and Danielle; and one great-grandchild. A visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Memorial services will be Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church at 1 p.m., with Pastor Chad Garrison offering words of comfort and inspiration.
