Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Friday, January 28, 2011 Andy E. Hernandez, 56, of Winslow, died Jan. 26, 2011, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded with his family and friends in the comfort of his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1955. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1973 and married his high school sweetheart, Pauline. He was employed as a locomotive engineer by Santa Fe Railway for 30 years until he retired because of illness. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He was a generous man who always put others before himself. Mr. Hernandez enjoyed his lifelong friendships, as was shown by the outpouring of support for him after he fell ill. Sick leave was donated by his fellow employees, who rallied for his cause. He was also in awe of the generosity of the people of Winslow and surrounding area when they all came together in his support. This allowed him to keep his home and all the memories following the years of chemotherapy. He truly enjoyed spending time and laughing with his grandchildren. He was very proud of each and every member of his family. Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pauline; two sons, Jason (Victoria) Hernandez of Winslow and Tommy (Monica) Hernandez of Winslow; five grandchildren; sister Theresa (Mario) Avalos of Winslow; brothers Manuel (Doris) Hernandez of Winslow and Rick (Marie) Hernandez of Prescott Valley; mother-in-law Josephine (Andrew) Ballejos of Winslow; sisters-in-law Tomie (Eloy) Zamora, Sally (Michael) Guzman and Janice (Brad) Childers, all of Winslow, Cathy (Eddie) Cruz of Las Vegas, Mary Ann Aragon of Los Lunas, N.M., and Patricia (Damon) Allen of Mesa; brothers-in-law Angelo (Candace) Aragon and David (Jeanette) Aragon, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Jennie Hernandez. Holy Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m., with Mass of Christian burial Saturday at 10 a.m., both at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he was baptized, took first communion and was married.
