James Eugene Babbitt
(May 8, 1938 - January 22, 2011)
James Eugene "Jim" Babbitt was born May 8, 1938, in South Gate, Calif. He was the son of Jean and Gene Babbitt, and died Jan. 22, 2011, at the age of 72.
Jim graduated high school from Pomona High School, going on to Chaffey, Mt. Sac and Rio Hondo colleges to gain more knowledge in his chosen field of fire science. He was a firefighter for 28 years before retiring from the Pomona/L.A. County Fire Department in 1990. He truly loved being a firefighter and helping others.
Throughout the course of his life, he was very passionate about cars, dirt bikes and boating, due to his "need for speed." Music, watching his favorite movie "Quigley Down Under," spending time in the family vacation home in Lake Havasu, reading, traveling and camping with his beloved Peggy as often as they could, as well as being a great bowler in which his entire family was involved, also played a major role in his life. As the years went by, he loved to share his stories with his family and friends that he made throughout his journey in this life.
Jim was a founding member and past President of The Mountain Top Street Rodders, past President of the Pomona Valley Boat & Ski Club, a member of the Over the Hill Gang of San Bernardino, Calif., as well as a lifetime member of the California State Fireman's Association.
He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Peggy of Chino Valley, Ariz.; sons Alan and Ted Babbitt of Hesperia, Calif.; daughter Kerry Babbitt of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sister Judy Rada of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; many wonderful nieces and nephews, along with his beloved pets, Buckey, Dennis, Jack and Opal.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation at www.aarbf.org.
