Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Wednesday, February 02, 2011 Walter Dalegowski, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Dalegowski was born Dec. 11, 1922, in Scranton, Pa., to Polish parents, Stanislaus and Helen. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, working on P38 aircraft for the 54th Fighter Squadron. The first time he saw Flagstaff, he was traveling through on a troop train. It was also the first time he had ever seen a mountain. After the war, Mr. Dalegowski moved to Kingman and began learning the auto-body trade. He moved to Flagstaff and had been a resident for more than 56 years. He worked for Jim Babbitt Ford for more than 32 years, and after retirement, he worked for Heath's Paint Center, delivering paint. He loved flying, collecting memories, traveling, Laughlin, and most of all, he loved his family. He always had a twinkle in his eye, especially when teasing someone. Mr. Dalegowski is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Dorothy; sister Annette (Ralph) of Farmington, N.M.; sister-in-law Mary Dalegowski of Flagstaff; brother-in-law Joseph DeStephano of Yorba Linda, Calif.; sons Charlie (Cathy) DeStephano of San Diego, Calif., David (Flora) of Cleburne, Texas, Mark (Terry) of Cleveland Tenn., and Chuckie Kline of Phoenix; daughters Mary Ann Scott of Flagstaff, Darla Marcum of Glendale, Sarah Florman of Mesa and Rachel Cline of Casa Grande; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. Fourth St., in Flagstaff.
