Julius Carter Vaughan (JC), 86, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 29, 2011 in Blythe, California due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
JC was born Oct. 12, 1924 in Greensboro, N.C. Even though he only went through the third grade, he later became a master carpenter.
He was sold off to be a farm hand to help his family during the depression. He joined the Navy in 1942-1945, where he became a machinist mate on the USS Mobile and USS Columbia.
He met the love of his life, Luvena Louise Taber, in Compton, Calif., and got married Jan. 15, 1953. They were married 58 years.
JC helped build one of the first houseboats in El Monte, Calif.
He joined the Carpenters Union under Western Builders, where he helped build the Purina Plant in Flagstaff, Ariz. as well as other various power plants across the nation. He moved his family from El Monte to Flagstaff in 1966, then in 1972 moved to Crossville, Tenn. and in 1975 moved again to Amarillo, Texas.
JC moved back and forth from Crossville to Amarillo for several years.
The Vaughans helped out at the Bentonville Fairgrounds for several years, where JC got hurt on the job and eventually retired to Quartzsite, Ariz. JC and his wife were well known in the community and went to many local activities.
The Vaughans were icons at the Quartzsite McDonalds and at 88 Shades, where JC was known as 'Sugar Lips' and 'Jukie Baby.'
JC will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but is finally at peace.
JC leaves behind his wife, Luvena Vaughan; four children, Gary Vaughan, Larry Vaughan, Linda Howe and Brenda Vaughan; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Feb. 4, 2011 at the Church of Isaiah 58, 100 S. Moon Mountain Ave. in Quartzsite, Ariz. beginning at 12 p.m. (Arizona time) for viewing and funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. (Arizona time) with burial following immediately at Hi Jolly Cemetery.
