John Lawrence Sullivan, 70, died Jan. 30, 2011, at his home in Munds Park. He died peacefully while surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 5, 1940, in Spareville, Kan., the youngest son of James and Erma Sullivan.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Sullivan joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years. Upon leaving the Air Force, he began a long career with Garret, which later became Allied Signal. He started out as an aircraft mechanic and over several years worked his way up to a supervising manager. He retired from Allied Signal in the 1990s and moved to Munds Park. He went to work for the Munds Park Post Office. He was a dedicated and friendly worker who always had a smile for every customer.
Mr. Sullivan loved spending time with his family and doing family activities like dirt biking, camping and playing cards. He was the type of man who always made people feel comfortable and welcome. He had a great sense of humor and a great personality. People couldn't help but like him because he loved to laugh and tell jokes, but he was humble enough to be able to still laugh even when a joke was about him.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Pat Sullivan; children Gregory and Dina Sullivan; one brother; two sisters; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m., at Munds Park Community Church.
