The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 4, 2011 Claire L. Williamson, 89, of Mesa went to be with the Lord Jan. 20, 2011. She was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Benton Harbor, Mich., the daughter of John and Edith (Jewell) Allett. At the age of nine she moved with her family to Valparaiso, Ind., where her father had accepted a position with the Vidette Messenger. Claire graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1939 and attended Valparaiso University. She married Ward M. Williamson in 1940. While residing in Valparaiso she had many rewarding achievements being named "Woman of Distinction" by a local sorority for her work in civic projects. She was President of the Junior Women's Club and the Jayshees (wives of Junior Chamber of commerce members). Claire was Secretary to Orville Redenbacher, Chester's Inc. for many years before her retirement. She is loved and missed by her husband of 70 years, Ward Williamson of Mesa. She is also survived by three daughters: Roxanne Shutske (Michael) Kouts, Ind., Sally Fasel (Wayne) of Eagar, Janifer Lackey (Joseph) Trafalgar, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Johnson and Jacquelyn Hermance. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Allett and great-grandson, Brandon Hunt. A family service was held in Mesa and a graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, Ind. at 2 p.m. Feb. 12. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.
