Clyde E. Avery, born in Crookston, Minn., Aug. 30, 1921, passed away in Prescott, Ariz., Feb. 8, 2011, after a brief hospitalization at age 89.
He was selected for Army Air Corps, going on to pilot bombers in the South Pacific Theater with the 31st Bomb Squadron.
In the mid '50s, Clyde and his family, which by then included wife Ginger and sons Richard, Douglas and Glen, moved to the Blythe, Calif. He was appointed Blythe postmaster by President J.F. Kennedy in the early 1960s. His post office career took Clyde and his family to the San Francisco Bay area; when he retired, they returned to Blythe.
In the late 1980s, Clyde and Ginger opted to finish their retirement in Arizona, moving to Wickenburg and finally settling in Dewey, Ariz., (near Prescott) in 2004.
Clyde is survived by his wife Ginger and sons Doug and Glen, all of the Prescott area, and son Richard of the Blythe area; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg, Ariz., at 3 p.m. (MST) on Feb. 20, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be directed to the Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff's Posse, Wickenburg, Ariz.

Clyde E. Avery, 89, passed away on Feb. 8, 2011 in Prescott, Ariz., after a brief hospitalization.
He was born in Crookston, Minn. on Aug. 30, 1921.
Following high school, Clyde migrated west to California as a young man to seek employment in the wartime manufacturing industry.
Upon the U.S. involvement in World War II, Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was selected for Army Air Corps Cadet training, which he completed, going on to pilot bombers in the South Pacific Theater with the 31st Bomb Squadron.
Following WWII he was recalled to the US Air Force to serve as a transport pilot through the Korean War era. After being released from active duty, Clyde continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve.
In the mid '50s Clyde and his family, which by then included wife Ginger and sons Richard, Douglas and Glen, moved to the Blythe area as a founding River Bender.
Clyde was active in the community as a River Cruise Pilot and volunteered with the Riverside County Fire Dept.
He was appointed Blythe Postmaster by President J.F. Kennedy in the early 1960s. As Postmaster he oversaw construction of the post office and federal offices on 1st Street, which remains in use today. His Postal Service career took Clyde and his family to the San Francisco Bay area in the late 1960s, where he remained until the early 1980s when he retired back to Blythe.
In the late 1980s, Clyde and Ginger opted to finish their retirement in Arizona. Moving to Wickenburg, Clyde returned to community service, joining the Maricopa County Sheriff's Posse as a reserve deputy sheriff. His focus was on search and rescue details. He finally settled in Dewey, Ariz. (near Prescott) in 2004, with his wife Ginger.
Clyde is survived by his wife Ginger of Prescott; sons Doug, Glen, all of the Prescott area, and son Richard of the Blythe area along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
