The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ September 13, 2006 Effie Jean Cox, 87, of Sierra Vista, died Sept. 7 after a long illness at the Hacienda Healthcare and Rehab Center. She had been an Arizona resident for 72 years. Effie Jean was born March 6, 1919, in Moore, Ark., to Ben and Maudie (Blalock) Gregory. She married Paul Ross Cox on April 9, 1939, in Mesa, Ariz. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her roses. Effie was a former resident of cottonwood, where she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, and three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her five children, Paul Roger Cox of Gilroy, Calif., Richard (Karleen) Cox of San Jose, Calif., Dennis (Robbin) Cox of Mesa, Theresa (James) Anderson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Avis (Solon) Mobley of Sierra Vista; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Moss of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two brothers, Bill Gregory of Lompoc, Calif., Jim Gregory of Creedmoor, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held Sept. 11 at the Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 S. Hwy. 92, in Sierra Vista. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 12 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 N. Taylor Drive, in Sierra Vista, with the Rev. Gregory Adolf as the celebrant. Private family interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa. The family has requested that memorial contributions be considered to the Alzheimer's Association, Southern Arizona Chapter, 5132 E Pima, Tucson, AZ 85712. Arrangements are by the Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista.
