PFEIFER, Jane Ellen

The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ September 27, 2006 Jane Ellen Pfeifer, of Camp Verde, died Sept. 19, 2006, at her home. She was born July 10, 1918, in Cook County, Illinois, and grew up in Hinsdale. She lived in Forest Park, Chicago, Melrose Park and Maywood, Ill., prior to moving to Sedona. She experienced an early call to evangelism and was unafraid to share her testimony. In her early years as a believer, she was a "radical red-headed Pentecostal woman" who moved in ministry before it became acceptable for women to do so. Jane mellowed in later years, have time to observe and understand better balance between home and religious pursuits. She left her family a legacy of faith and prayer. Jane was married to Jerry Pfeifer and they had five children. She was widowed 17 years ago. She continued to provide sewing services for local cleaners and private customers in Sedona, when they lived for 13 years. Four years ago, she moved to Camp Verde to live with her eldest daughter. Survivors include children Nancy Barkley, of Camp Verde, Carol Wiens (Don), of Billings, Mont., and Arizona, Janie Arnold (Jon), of Spokane, Wash.; and Dale Hoffman (Jan), of Azle, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service for family and friends will be held later in October.
