FAJARDO, Jose (Joe) Licon


Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Jose Licon Fajardo (August 25, 1925 - March 7, 2009) Jose "Joe" Licon Fajardo, son of Pablo and Beatrice Fajardo, was born on August 25, 1925 in Flagstaff Arizona. On Saturday March 7, 2009, Joe passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after battling a long illness. He attended school in Flagstaff and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in the 71st infantry division in Germany during World War 2. After returning from Germany, Joe married Lucy Navarro on June 12, 1948 and together raised eight daughters. Throughout his life Joe worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, Saginaw Mill and retired after thirty years from the Navajo Army Depot. Joe was a parishioner at Saint Pius Catholic Church and served on the Parish Counsel for many years. He also was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Joe was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a huge Diamondback's fan. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lucy, and daughters Margaret Newell, Flagstaff Arizona, Vickie (Geof) Garcia, Sandy Utah, Dolores (Tony) Jacquez, Flagstaff Arizona, Yolanda (Peter) Sanchez, Flagstaff Arizona, Lucy (Terry) Martin, Flagstaff Arizona, Toni (Ken) Harkey, Flagstaff Arizona, Rosalie (Brian) Bachstein, Flagstaff Arizona, 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Pasqual Fajardo, Phoenix Arizona, Richard Fajardo, Phoenix Arizona, Larry Fajardo, Tucson Arizona and sister Fidela Vining, Tucson Arizona. Joe was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Josephine, Mother Beatrice, Father Pablo, brothers Tony, Orlando, Paul, and Robert, sisters Esther Rosales, Helen Correa, and Rafela Valencia, and son-in-law Charles Newell. Joe will be remembered by his Stetson cowboy hat and love for his family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northland Hospice, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, Arizona, 86002 A rosary and viewing will be held on Tuesday March 10th 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday March 11, 2009 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 12 Noon, with graveside services at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the mass.
