Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona August 2, 1990 Betty JoAnn Kellis, 59, of Bagdad, died July 26 in Phoenix. Mrs. Kellis was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Aug. 1, 1930. She had lived in Arizona for the past 48 years, moving with her family to Tolleson in 1942. She married Ed Kellis, who survives her, on June 8, 1952, in Phoenix. Mrs. Kellis was a 1950 graduate of Tolleson High School. She had been employed by the Bagdad copper Corporation and the Bagdad Market. She also worked with the ambulance crew. Mrs. Kellis was a member of the Hilltop Community Church in Bagdad and was active in the Dorcas Society, a women’s church group. She was a member of the Hassayampa Chapter 35, Order of the Eastern Star, the Yavapai and Mohave Cattle Growers Association, and two bridge clubs in Bagdad. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gil and Bert; a brother, Jack; one son-in-law, Stan; one daughter-in-law, Della; a grandson, Jessie, three aunts; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leeta Ann, three months ago. Services were Tuesday at Hilltop Community Church in Bagdad, with burial following in the Wickenburg Cemetery. On Tuesday, July 31, a large group of family and friends paid their last respects to Betty Jo Kellis, who died recently. Kellis worked for the Cyprus Bagdad Copper Corporation for 22 years. At the time of her death, she had been a member of the ambulance crew for a number of years. Kellis was buried next to her daughter, Leeta Ann, who died tragically earlier this year. Bagdad residents, her colleagues at Cyprus Bagdad and the many truck drivers who encountered her on duty at the mine security gate will miss Betty Jo Kellis.
