PARK, Robert (Bob)


Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona September 19, 1990 Robert, “Bob” Park, a well-known Wickenburg area rancher and retired attorney, died Sept. 11 in the White Mountain Community Hospital in Springerville. He was 63. Mr. Park was born in 1927 in Olean, N.Y. He had lived in Arizona for most of his life, moving to the state in 1938. Mr. Park gained prominence for his work with the Industrial Commission of Arizona. He became chief counsel of the State Compensation Fund in 1969 and played a major role in writing the final draft of the workers’ compensation laws separating the Fund from the Commission. As an attorney, he worked in both the public and private sectors of the state. He worked in state service for the Arizona Supreme Court, for the state as an assistant attorney general and with the Arizona Code Commission, where he rewrote the codes to their present form. Between 1959-65 he moved to Prescott to work for the private law firm of Favour and Quail, returning to the ICA in 1965 to work as its chief counsel. Mr. Park retired in 1988 to his ranch in Wickenburg. He received his law degree in 1951 from the University of Arizona, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha. He was a member of the Cattle Growers Association (both local and state); and the Maricopa Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. Survivors include his wife, Betty; three sons, Bob, Bill, and Buzz; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg, with burial following in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
