LUNDQUIST,
Clarence George (Boots)
Clarence George "Boots" Lundquist passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at the age of 94. He was born Friday, March 31, 1916 in Willcox, Arizona.
George and his family lived in southern Arizona as his dad Harry was a pumper for the railroad and his mother, Alice a postmaster at Pantano. George loved telling his many stories about his parents, brothers and sisters. He graduated from Tucson High in 1934. He joined the CCC in 1934 and was on the crew that worked on Colossal Cave. He worked for the SP Railroad from 1937 until his retirement in 1976. He remained a contented Tucsonan for all his life.
He married Willive Gardner in August 1941 and was happily married until he lost both Willive and their daughter, Georgia in 1954 to a tragic accident. He remarried in 1956 to Alice Elizabeth "Betty" Evans and together they raised four boys and one girl. Between fishing trips, visits to a summer home in Pinetop, and world travel they watched the children and grandchildren raise their own families. Betty passed away in September 2004, which broke George's heart. In life he was a kind and gentle soul to everyone he met. Family and friends will miss his generous spirit.
Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Alice (Weisbeck); brothers, Wallace, Emmett and Harry; sisters, Maybelle Yeoman, Beryl Bynum, Alice Longmore, Hazel Treu and grandson, Timothy Lundquist. George is survived by his five children, Thomas (Ann), Marcus (Barbara), William (Peggy), Peter (Jill), Nancy (Howard) Borgwald, along with eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service and burial will be held at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions in his Memory to Arizona Friends of Talking Books, 1030 N. 32nd St., Phoenix, AZ 85008.
