COX, Herbert Day


Herbert Day Cox passed away Feb. 15, 2004, at his home in Safford surrounded by his family. He was 81. Herb was born March 24, 1922 to Wilbur Cox and Eva Tarr in Topsham, Maine. He attended Topsham elementary and graduated from Brunswick High. He joined the Army Air Corp. and was a World War 2 veteran. After the war he moved to Arizona. He married Lenore Wannebo and helped her raise her 5 children. Herbert retired from Heflin Steel and Revlon Mfg. He and Lenore (Lennie) moved to Safford in 2000 to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. He enjoyed fishing and camping and baseball. He was a devout Diamondbacks fan. He recently went back to Maine for his 60th class reunion. Herb was pleasant in all weathers and kind to everyone. He will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife Lenore of Safford two sons Albert and Martin Ceccardi of Phoenix; three daughters Candy Dugdale and Camille Allen of Phoenix and Cheryl Soto of Thatcher. A brother Raymond Cox of Gardiner and sister Margaret St. Pierre of Brunswick, Maine and a sister Dorothy Allen of Florida; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
