Victor Leon Terven
Mr. Terven World War II Atomic Veteran, Victor "Vic" Leon Terven, succumbed to sudden illness at the age of 83 on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz.
Vic was born March 19, 1927, in Bloomington, Ill., to Charles and Emily Terven. Vic joined the United States Navy on Jan. 23, 1945, where he served honorably as a Carpenter's Mate aboard the ships USS Bagaduce, ATO-21 and USS Nemasket, AOG-10 during World War II. Vic was an Atomic survivor. After being discharged honorably from the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class on Oct. 23, 1947, Vic moved to Arizona where he lived for 64 years.
Vic is survived by his only child, Vicki Jean Wright; his two grandchildren, Jessica Laura Hollis with her husband Ricky Ray Hollis Jr. and Wade Cole Wright; his great grandson Mason Riley Hollis; four of his seven sisters, Charlotte Green, Patricia Quick, Lori Bledsoe and Barbara Jording. Vic is preceded in death by his lovely wives, Laura Jean and Eileen.
A memorial service will be on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the VA Chapel, building #152, located on campus at the VA Medical Center, 500 Highway 89N, Prescott, Ariz.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at The Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 East Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Ariz., (480)-895-9232.
Thank you to the many friends and staff at the VA Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz. who made the remaining months of Vic's life joyous. Thank you also to the friends and community of Mayer, Ariz. Donations are not requested, instead we ask that you thank a Veteran for their service and remember the many others that died in honor of our Country and their cause.
