MOORE, Nellie LeDona


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 22, 1992, p. 2 Nellie LeDona Moore, 85, of Congress died April 17 at her home in Congress. Mrs. Moore was born March 3, 1907 in Tillamook, Oregon. She had lived in Arizona for 76 years, moving to Aguila as a young child. Mrs. Moore’s family moved to Aguila in 1917, where her family had a gold mine near the town named the Nelameda, which is still there today. It is part of the Robson Mining Museum. She married Kearney Moore in January 1930, and they ranched and lived in Aguila until 1946 when they moved to Congress to what is now the Moore Ranch. During World War II, Mrs. Moore, who was an outstanding marksman and trapper, trapped for the government to aid the war effort. The furs and skins she supplied were used for parkas for the soldiers. She and her husband ranched until 1971 when Mr. Moore passed away. Mrs. Moore was inducted into the Pioneer Livestock Association in 1990. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Kathy Moore of Congress; a sister, Meda Stokes of Yarnell; a brother, Harvey J. Rush of Prescott; three grandsons, Alan Moore of Corona, California, Mark Moore of Congress and Jack Moore of Tucson; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were Monday, April 20 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Pastor Sam Weinschenk officiated. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wickenburg Hospital Foundation. All service arrangements were made through the Wickenburg Funeral Home.
