John Thomas Dennis, 70, of Flagstaff, died Feb. 15, 2011. He was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Macon, Ga.
Mr. Dennis enlisted into the U.S. Air Force at the age of 23. During his time in the military, he was stationed at several bases including Alaska, Georgia, Thailand, Korea and Vietnam. Soon after enlisting, he married Mary Lee Coleman and together they raised three children. They recently observed their 47th wedding anniversary.
He retired to Flagstaff after serving 25 years in the U.S. Air Force. At that time, he began employment at Uptown Office Supply, later taking ownership of the business. Everyone who knew him will remember him for his laughter, his welcoming personality and his love for life. After retiring a second time, he could be found on any given day sitting in his garage waving at everyone that passed by.
Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary; son Steven Darnell (Nikon) Dennis; daughter Tadzia Marie (Reginald) Dennis-Jackson; three grandsons; mother-in-law Leola Coleman; and a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lonnie Alonzo Dennis.
The viewing will be today from 6 to 8 p.m., at Norvel Owens Mortuary. A funeral service will also be conducted at the mortuary on Saturday at 11 a.m., with a graveside service following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an account that has been set up at Coconino Federal Credit Union.
