Second recent tragedy strikes Mallicoat family
The sudden death of 56-year-old Jody Mallicoat Tuesday morning marked the second tragedy for that Wickenburg family in as many weeks. Mallicoat, whose daughter-in-law died in a local auto traffic accident two weeks ago, died at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Tuesday morning after reportedly suffering from a brain hemorrage a day earlier.
A native of East Chicago, Mallicoat came to Wickenburg in 1947 and married Ron Mallicoat in 1958. Ron Mallicoat is the current general manager at Jones Ford/Lincoln/Mercury in Wickenburg.
Jody Mallicoat had worked as a registered nurse for 36 years in Wickenburg and Sun City West. She was a 1954 graduate of Wickenburg High School and a 1957 graduate of Good Samaritan School of Nursing.
Services for Mallicoat will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, 1993, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg. The Rev. Ed Wessling will officiate in the service.
She is survived by her husband, Ron, daughters Kimberly Wilkins and Kelly Jo Mallicoat and son Kevin Mallicoat, who lost his wife in the traffic accident two weeks ago. Other survivors include stepdaughter, Pam Bues and Jackie Pearson; grandsons George Wilkins III, R. J. Wilkins, Carl Mallicoat and Matthew Mallicoat; step-grandsons Brian and Robbie Watters, Donny Baggett, Zack and Zeph Zelner; son-in-law George Wilkins Jr.; sister, Kerry Baffa; and many nieces and nephews.
Grandsons Carl and Matthew Mallicoat were the sons of the 34-year-old Amanda Mallicoat, who died in the accident earlier this month.
Pat Wittman, current president of the Hospital Auxiliary at Wickenburg Community Hospital and former director of nursing at the facility, remembered Jody Mallicoat as one of the dedicated nurses who always had a smile for everyone she met.
Wittman said Mallicoat had first worked at the old Wickenburg hospital in the late 1950’s, and then worked again at the local facility from 1966 through 1984.
She worked as a surgical nurse at the Wickenburg hospital in the 1960’s, Wittman said.
