The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 19, 1994, p. 2 Merle Barton of Congress died in Congress on January 13. He was 79. Mr. Barton was born March 1, 1914 in Custer, South Dakota. He had lived in Arizona for 17 years. Survivors include his wife Madge Howell; son Harry Lee Barton of Scottsdale; daughters Merleen Sharon Pacheco of Salinas, California and Marilyn Joan Mattingly of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters Mabel C. Lawton of Rapid City, South Dakota and Clara P. Waters of Livermore, California. Grandchildren include Carl R. Pacheco, Carrie Pacheco, Tony D. Mattingly and Rhonda Mattingly, all of Anchorage; three great-grandchildren, four nephews and two nieces who live in Salinas. Funeral services have been held. Arrangements were made by Frey Funeral Home of Wickenburg.
