NERVICK, Harold C.


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ February 16, 1994, p. 2 Harold C. Nervick, a former resident of Wickenburg, died February 3 in Tacoma, Washington. He was 87. He had lived in Arizona for six years. Mr. Nervick was a thespian graduate of San Pedro, California, High School Class of 1927 and was also the captain of the baseball and football teams. He went on to graduate from California Christian College, now Chapman College of Orange, where he held a collegiate athletic record for more than 40 years. Mr. Nervick worked the San Pedro docks, where he is accredited with establishing the International Longshore Warehouseman Union and the I.L.W.U. Foreman’s Locale 13 and 94. He was inducted into World War II as a second lieutenant, due to his waterfront experience and education. He went on to become a full colonel, receiving four congressional decorations and the Dutch Lion from that country’s government. He returned to the tranquility of a dairy farm in Wickenburg for six years until the Metropolitan Stevedore Company called him back to the Los Angeles waterfront. In accordance with Metropolitan, he established and supervised the Long Beach 212 Bulk Dock. Mr. Nervick retired 22 years ago and traveled the world, visiting areas at which he had been port commander, including Port Morsby, Australia. He returned from his travels to the beaches of Mexico and later to Desert Hot Springs, California. He is survived by his son, Richard; grandson Leif and granddaughter Dawn.
