VAN WIEREN, Nicholas


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 20, 1994, p. 2 Nicholas Van Wieren of Wickenburg and formerly of New Jersey died April 11 at the Wickenburg Community Hospital. He was 70. Mr. Van Wieren was born April 12, 1923 in Prospect Park, New Jersey and had lived in Arizona for eight years. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier in the 8th Air Force and flew in B-17s, doing 35 missions. He was a member of the American for more than 40 years and a member of the Wickenburg Elks Lodge No. 2160, holding offices as chaplain and tyler. Mr. Van Wieren and his wife Dorothy were married February 14, 1948 in Midland Park, New Jersey and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Gordon Storms of Chester, New York; son Nicholas Jr. of Allendale, New Jersey; grandson Matthew Gordon Storms, also of Chester; sister Dorothy Balkema of Midland Park; and brothers Bernard and James Van Wieren, both of Wykoff, New Jersey. Services have been held, and interment was at the V.A. National Cemetery in Phoenix. Pastor James Longstreet officiated.
