COATES, Elizabeth Armstrong (Betsey)

(Maiden Name: Ross)

Elizabeth Armstrong Ross Coates Born as Elizabeth Armstrong Ross on May 16, 1922, in Washington, D.C., "Betsy Ross" grew up in New York City. She came from a large family – three girls and five boys. Betsy loved numbers and had a career as a cost analyst at Nabisco Co. She later worked for the Crane Company where she met and married the love of her life, Edward James Coates. She became a full time mom with the arrival of three children, Kenneth, Linda and Edward Jr. The family moved to Tarrytown, NY by the Hudson River when her husband was employed by General Motors. Ed Sr. was soon promoted and moved his family to Michigan. Betsy was the model wife who kept house, looked after her husband and children and showered love on family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf and bingo. The couple retired to Englewood, Florida where Ed Sr. passed away several years later. Her daughter, Linda and son, Edward Jr. then moved Betsy to Tucson to be close to her family. After a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's disease, Betsy peacefully passed away on February 16, 2011. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Coates (Sue) of Morganton, NC, Edward Coates Jr. (Julie) and daughter, Linda Marie Chu (Philip), both of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. While we are sad that she has lost her battle on this earth, we are overjoyed that she is once again with her beloved husband. There are no plans for a public service at this time. The family wishes to thank the staff of Emeritus Senior Living and Hospice Family Care of Tucson for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betsy's name to Hospice Family Care, 6300 E. El Dorado Plaza, Suite A-100, Tucson, AZ 85715. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY.
