Dorthea A. Kane Moore 1924 - 2011 86, of Tucson died February 17, 2011. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas J. and Pearl Chapman Kane and brother, Donald Robert Kane. Beloved wife of 63 years of Jack M. Moore, devoted mother of Victoria (Lee) Bode and Kathleen Jackson; cherished grandmother of Jennifer L. Bode all of Tucson. Mrs. Moore graduated from high school in the midst of WWII, entered a government sponsored engineering program at Cornell University and then went to work on a top secret project - the Norden bombsight - for Army Ordnance. She joined the US Army Air Corps to supervise the installation of the bombsights in the B-29's. After WWII, her top secret classification brought swift reassignment where she served first in the Strategic Air Command and then in the Caribbean Air Command. It was in Panama that she met a young Army Engineer, Jack Moore and married him in the Canal Zone at the Albrook Field Chapel in December 1947. After discharge they settled in the Midwest and in January 1960 moved to Tucson, AZ. Dorthea worked as a secretary for TUSD, and then in public relations for several area credit unions. She also served as Southern AZ editor for an Arizona business magazine. For most of her life she was a member of the United Methodist Church. She served as treasurer of Catalina UMC and was one of the founders of San Pedro Valley UMC in Benson, AZ. Since 1996, Mrs. Moore and her family have been members of Northminster Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will be offered 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle Rd. & W. Miracle Mile, with Reverend John Cheek officiating. Mrs. Moore's family would like to thank Emeritus at Catalina Foothills and Family Hospice Care for the wonderful care they gave to Dorthea.
