Abigail “Abi” Paredes Maas, 85, of Wickenburg, died August 27 in Phoenix.
Mrs. Maas was born June 10, 1909 in Mexico. She had lived in Arizona for the past 47 years, moving to Wickenburg in 1947.
Mrs. Maas was a school teacher in Mexico. She was raised during the Mexican Revolution and had to hide in foxholes several times to avoid being caught by the banditos that would come to rob people. She was later an entrepreneur in the mining business, also in Mexico.
After moving to Wickenburg in 1947 to raise her family here, she was employed by the Flying E Ranch and Rancho Grande motel. Her hobbies included sewing and cooking and she loved all types of flowers, especially orchids.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Jennings of San Diego, California; a son, Robert R. Maas of Indio, California three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at the Wickenburg Funeral Home chapel at 6:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) August 31. David LeClair will officiate. Private cremation will follow. All arrangements were handled by the Wickenburg Funeral Home.
