Cyril McDaniel of Salome died September 13 in Wickenburg. He was 93.
Mr. McDaniel was born January 14, 1901 in Winterset, Iowa. He had lived in Arizona for the past 19 years, coming here from Missouri.
He was a farmer through his early life and later worked for the U.S. government, installing radio beacons throughout the west. He then went into the home construction business, building homes in Missouri. Following his retirement, Mr. McDaniel and his wife Helen, who preceded him in death, moved to Salome, where he built their retirement home. Mr. McDaniel enjoyed jewelry making during his retirement years.
His parents, Ward and Cynthia McDaniel, were listed in the Guiness World Book of Records as having the longest marriage in the United States - 81 years - prior to his father’s death at 102 years of age. His mother died one year after her husband’s death, also at age 102.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Herbert Ham of Salome; brother Rueben McDaniel of Seattle, Washington; and grandchildren Marvin Ham of Williams and Lorri Ham of Salome. His wife, Helen March McDaniel, preceded him in death in 1991.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted in Missouri at a later date. Contributions may be made in Mr. McDaniel’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice. Frey Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements.
