VAN METRE, Edward James


VAN METRE, Edward James, died on February 15, 2011 in Flagstaff, AZ. Born January 16, 1927, in California to Harold and Mary Stuckslager Van Metre, he attended school at Green Fields (Tucson), Oberlin College, and earned Masters and doctorate degrees from U of A. In 1954 Ed married Patricia Downer. Through the years he taught school at Green Fields, Bisbee HS, Sunnyside HS, and 15 years in the College of Education at U of A. He was a member of Skyline Country Club in Tucson and Continental Country Club in Flagstaff and played golf and tennis well into his 80's. In addition to Patricia, Ed is survived by a devoted nephew, Randolph Downer, Jr. (Sherry) of Tucson; first cousins, David Van Metre, Lanning Macfarland, Elizabeth Rosenberry and many extended family members, primarily in the Midwest. A celebration of Ed's life is planned for Saturday, April 23, 2011 in the Coconino Forest at Flagstaff pending favorable weather.
