April 23, 1930. Father And Son Have a Double Funeral Service. Pioneer Estrada Dies As Result of Shock From News Of Son's Demise.
One of the largest funerals ever held in Pirtleville was the double funeral service conducted yesterday afternoon as the final tribute to Espiredon Estrada, veteran resident of the suburb, and his son, Jose Estrada Robles. The circumstances attending the double funeral were pathetically tragic and came with a suddenness that shocked the large circle of friends of the two deceased.
The son, Robles, was the victim of an automobile accident. His death occurred on Monday and the funeral was announced for 5 yesterday afternoon. The son was 42 years of age.
Early yesterday morning the father, Estrada, was stricken and died in a short time. He was 88 years of age.
Both father and son had gained a wide circle of friends through their years of merchandising in Pirtleville. The announcement of the death of the two brought general sorrow to their neighbors and friends.
The funeral procession was one of the biggest ever seen in this area and was given a touching aspect as the two hearses, one carrying the aged father leading and the one bearing the body of the son following while beside it marched five daughters dressed in white and carrying flowers which later were placed upon the grave.
Rev. Fr. F.L. Rousselle, rector of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, lead the procession and conducted the Catholic burial ritual. Three lodges and the Mexican White Cross also had delegations in the line of march.
