BATES, Richard C.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 28, 2011. Richard C. Bates, 76, died Feb. 18, 2011 in Glendale. He was a resident of Eagar. Richard was born March 6, 1934, in Douglas, the son of Calvin and Genevieve Walker Bates. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1953-55. He also was a construction Ironworker. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he enjoyed doing leather-work, taxidermy and gardening. Richard liked to hunt and to travel about the U.S. and Canada. He is survived by his wife, Marylyn J. Beckstead Bates; son Charles D. Bates of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter Amy L. Bates of Phoenix; brother Ernest Bates of Sun Lakes and Pinetop; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Calvin C. Bates (1989), mother Genevieve Walker Bates (1993), and brother Calvin (Ike) Bates (2006). Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Eagar. Funeral services will follow at noon at the church. Interment will be at the Eagar Cemetery after the services. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements. American Legion Post #30 will be performing military honors.
