HINKLE, SR., Richard Gene


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Wednesday, March 02, 2011 Richard G. Hinkle Sr., 78, of Congress, Ariz., formerly of Tomahawk, Wis., passed away Feb. 12 at the V.A. Hospital in Prescott, Ariz. He was born April 18, 1932 to Hershel L. and Hazel A. Hinkle in Chicago, Ill. He served in the United States Army as a food service specialist during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he married Edith Vero, and they became the parents of three children. He worked as a painter and eventually started his own painting business, “Dick’s Decorating.” In October of 1969, the family moved to Tomahawk, Wis., and purchased Pine Point Resort on Lake Alice, which they operated until 1983. He served as a Cub Scout leader and as the King Township constable. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting ducks, pheasants, snapping turtles, and bow hunting for whitetail deer. He was self taught to play the guitar, and he also learned to scuba dive. He moved to Exeter, Calif., in 1986 and married Carol Pommerening in 1993. They moved to Congress, Ariz., in 1998, where he continued to work as a painter and maintenance man. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan. He is survived by his wife Carol of Congress; son Richard G. Jr. (Mary Kay) of O’Fallon, Mo.; daughter Sherry L (Steven) Voight of Lake Mills, Wis.; seven grandchildren, two half-sisters, and a half-brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James E., his former wife Edith, and a brother Jack L. A private cremation will be at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements.
