CONBOY - WINKER, Agatha (Aggie) Lorraine

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, March 01, 2011 Agatha (Aggie) Lorraine Conboy-Winker died at home suddenly on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at 89 years of age. She was born to Alva and Marion Pike in El Paso, Texas, on Feb. 12, 1922, the anniversary of Lincoln's birthday. Aggie married Herman (Bud) Conboy on June 2, 1940, in Roswell, N.M. They were married for 52 years. They spent the war years working at Mare Island Naval Yard in Vallejo, Calif. - Bud as a railroad switch engine operator and Aggie as a semi-truck driver. Right after the war ended, they moved to Rosemead, Calif., where they owned and operated a furniture store with Aggie's brother, Ken. In June 1957 Aggie and Bud moved to Camp Verde, Ariz., then on to Prescott, Ariz., in October 1957. Aggie was a secretary for the Yavapai County Health Department, then worked with the Yavapai County Civil Defense Department. They also owned Conboy Apartments on South Rush Street. After retirement, Bud and Aggie developed Idle Wheels subdivision in Prescott. Aggie loved to travel and, with Bud, visited every one of the 50 states, most of Canada, and many countries in Europe. She hiked the Grand Canyon several times. She loved garage sales and finding a bargain, and loved to show off her huge collection of antique kitchen implements. After being widowed for almost 18 years, Aggie married Albert Winker in April of 2010 at Las Fuentes Resort Village, where they resided at the time of her death. Aggie was pre-deceased by her brother Clayton Alvin Pike in 1945, her daughter Pat in 1960, her son Bob in 1964, and husband Bud in 1992. She is survived by husband Al Winker; son Clay and his wife Jan of Prescott; sister Betty Lopez; brother Ken Pike; grandson Alan (Chanda) Conboy; and five great-grandchildren in Missouri. A memorial service will be at the Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road, Prescott on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Prescott Community Church.
