Herman Meredith, 92 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Feb. 3, 2007. He was born in Leonard, Texas in 1914, moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, then to Phoenix, AZ in 1941.
He was the son of T.L. and Mary Meredith. He had two brothers and a sister who have predeceased him.
Herman married his wife, Mae in 1937. They would have been married 70 years in August. Wife, Mae, son Tommy, daughter Janice Hamilton, survives him along with 8 grand children, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. His son Ted passed away in 2005.
Herman had many interests and was self employed most of his adult life, which included 66 years in Phoenix. He was originally in the insurance business with his Dad, which brought him to Phoenix.
Other businesses were Meredith Masonry, Meredith Construction, and Meredith Homes, which developed many subdivisions throughout the Phoenix area. He was President of the Independent Contractors Association, President of Ariz. Association of Homebuilders and Regional Vice President of National Association of Homebuilders. He was an organizer and First Chairman of the Board of Stewart Title and Trust.
His real passion was his ranching and horses. In the 1950's he and his brother T.L. owned the Meredith 33 Ranch east of Payson. Later they bought in Tonto Basin. He then purchased the Buzzard Roost Ranch near Young, AZ. Where he enjoyed his family, cattle and horses. His son Ted managed the ranch for many years.
He purchased O'Brien Investment and operated it until his retirement in 1999. Herman was a "mans man" who enjoyed life, he was a private pilot, hunted and fished, shot trap and skeet and of course a cowboy. His wife, Mae, family and church were very important to him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Jesus First Church, 498 West Missouri, viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.
Burial following at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren. Arrangements by A.L. Moore, Grimshaw Mortuary. In lien of flowers family is requesting donations, in Herman's name to Jesus First Church.
