Helen Elizabeth Hill passed away on Feb. 24, 2011, in Prescott, Ariz. She was born on March 12, 1918, in Ivanhoe, Calif., to Leslie and Anna Gertrude Runyon. William Ray Hill Sr. passed away on Feb. 27, 2011, also in Prescott. He was born on Jan. 23, 1915, in Enterprise, Okla., to William Evert and Bessie Myrtle Hill.
Helen and Ray met in Visalia, Calif., and were married in April 1949 in Reno, Nev. Ray owned and operated a brake and front-end shop in Visalia. He later moved his shop and most of his family to Prescott, Ariz., leaving a daughter, Rebecca Bomann, in Visalia. This move was on the advice of Ray's uncle, Jess, who was living in Prescott at the VA at the time. In Prescott, Helen, while raising her family, also held many positions with the local stores.
Bowling was a big part of both Helen's and Ray's lives, with Ray sponsoring his own team for many years. They were both avid outdoors lovers - he being a self-proclaimed rock hound, even doing his own lapidary work. Ray also was an American Legion baseball sponsor, including his sons in the sport, trying to instill in them the love of the game. Helen enjoyed sewing and cooking, especially lemon meringue pies, and most especially she loved rose gardening.
Helen and Ray enjoyed 62 years of marriage, leaving behind a great legacy. They are survived by their children, Rebecca June (Harry Daniel) Bomann of Visalia, Calif., William Ray (Melanie) Hill Jr. of Prescott, Stuart Everett Hill, also of Prescott, Sara Gail Alvarez of Cave Creek, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Helen and Ray will be at a later date. The family suggests that donations be made to Good Samaritan Marley House, 1063 Ruth St., Prescott, AZ 86301, in Ray and Helen's memory.
Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign their guestbook.
