Vega Patricia Fahey
The life of Vega Patricia Fahey will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Fahey was born Aug. 18, 1903, and died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in Albuquerque, N.M.
She resided in Prescott beginning in 1975, and moved to Albuquerque in 1985 before returning to Prescott in 1994. Mrs. Fahey celebrated her 100 birthday on Aug. 18, 2003, with a special mass and reception at Sacred Heart, sending out invitations herself as well as planning and arranging the entire event. She even danced during the festivities.
Guests included a friend from Canada, family members from Sweden and from other parts of the United States, plus many friends in Prescott.
In 2006, Mrs. Fahey returned to a Catholic retirement community in Albuquerque and lived there until her death at 107 years of age.
Mrs. Fahey was widowed in 1983. Her husband was Charles E. Fahey, a retired executive of American Express who served as a lector at Sacred Heart Church for many years. She is survived by her niece, Anne Bearman; nephews, William and Robert Sandberg and Charles Simpson; and great nephews, Richard Bearman, Michael Sandberg and David, Christopher and Carl Simpson. She is also survived by a host of cousins in Sweden and other family members in California.
"A Walk in the Footprints of Love," 106 years of memories, written by Mrs. Fahey was published and introduced at Mrs. Fahey's 107th birthday celebration in Albuquerque where she signed and sold copies and was interviewed for the 5 o'clock news of NBC's local TV affiliate. Copies are now available at St. Jude's Possible Shop, 410 West Gurley in Prescott.
