The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 3, 2011. Gladys R. Vallejos, 69, of Chino Valley, died Feb. 25, 2011, in Phoenix. She was born April 2, 1941, in Gallup, N.M. to Monroe and Martina Ashley. Gladys was a former resident of St. Johns. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Winslow for a time. Gladys enjoyed helping others and was a very social person. She loved to tell others about her kids. She loved riding horses and making jewelry. Gladys is survived by her children: Daniel (Berna) Vallejos Jr., Orlando Vallejos, Michael Vallejos, Darryl (Nellie) Vallejos, Yolanda Meeker, Glenn (Tiffany) Vallejos, Edward Vallejos; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sisters Lisa Tate and Lucille Reyna. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, and son Galen Vallejos. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, March 4, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. Johns. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, also at the church. Interment will follow the service at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery. Burnham Mortuary of St. Johns handled arrangements.
