The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 2, 1994, p. 2 A memorial ride and lunch for John Millar, 70, who died October 8 will be held Saturday, November 12 at Sophie’s Flat, three miles out on Constellation Road. Friends of Mr. Millar are invited to ride part way and take part in a brief service, after which his family will proceed on alone to scatter his ashes. Following the ride, a potluck lunch will be served. Those who attend are asked to bring their own chair, silverware and plate. Mr. Millar, of Cadillac, Saskatchewan, Canada, was born in Rapid City, Manitoba, Canada in 1924. He received his schooling in Rapid City, going from there to take courses in agriculture at Brandon College. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, Mr. Millar operated riding schools at Clear Lake Manitoba, and Winnipeg. His love of horses led to employment with the Canadian government as a ranch manager at Milestone for 30 years, until his retirement. His next 14 winters were spent in Arizona, with summers in Saskatchewan. Mr. Millar was an active member of several local horseback riding groups. Survivors include his sons Brian, Bill and Donald; daughter JoAnne; seven grandchildren, special friend Doreen Laxdal and sisters Grace and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, an infant daughter and parents.
