The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 11, 1995, p. 2 George E. McGill of Wickenburg died January 7 in Wickenburg. He was 78. Mr. McGill was born April 4, 1916 in Denver, Colorado. He had lived in Arizona for the past three years, coming from Utah. Mr. McGill grew up in the Genoa, Colorado area. He graduated high school at 16 and as a young man developed a love for sports. He played professional baseball with the Ogden Red Sox, boxed, swam in competition, played semi-pro football, and basketball. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf. The wilderness attracted Mr. McGill. One of his favorite spots was the cabin he built in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. He also loved to fish. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. McGill worked for the federal government in Civil Service, retiring in the Ogden area. He then became a certified real estate appraiser. Mr. McGill was also very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Esther; daughters and sons-in-law George Mack of Layton, Utah, Maureen and Bruce Rustin of Ogden, Colleen and John Crittenden of Ogden, Shelly and Mike Wenzl of Chandler; sons and daughters-in-law Patrick Georg and Lois Ann of Monroe, New York, Bruce James and Louree of West Jordan, Utah, Kevin Scott and Janice of Elk Ridge, Utah; sister Zada Haws of Ogden; brothers Patrick and Grant, both of Ogden; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday, January 9 at the LDS Church in Wickenburg. Bishop Max R. Colgrove officiated. Burial will be January 12 in Kaysville City Cemetery in Kaysville, Utah. Memorial contributions in Mr. McGill’s name may be made to the American heart Association, Arizona Affiliate, P. O. Box 7038, Phoenix, 85011.
