Virginia Culin Scott Roberts, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on December 5, 2010. Born January 8, 1921, Virginia was a fourth generation descendanrt of Arizona pioneer families.
Her parents and grandmother attended the University of Arizona making Virginia, when she matriculated in 1939, the third generation of her family to have done so. An award winning author of books and articles on Arizona history, her books include: "Outpost in the Desert", "Pioneers in the Desert" and "With Their Own Blood".
A noted speaker on Arizona and Southwestern history, Virginia frequently made historical presentations around the state. Virginia loved life, her family and her many friends. She enjoyed research and writing, history, singing and composing music, investing in the stock market, playing bridge, designing buildings, bowling, and nature (and the out of doors) in all its forms, particularly her beloved Catalina Mountains.
She is survived by her children, Carol Scott Russell of Wickenburg, AZ, James Culin Scott of Tucson, and Marcia Scott Hayes of Pebble Beach, CA; her grandchildren, Lisa Hopkins, Chris Williams, Aaron Scott and Lindsay Scott; and her great-grandchildren David and James Schonian.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7650 N Paseo del Norte, Tucson, AZ. A reception will follow at the church.
