The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 14, 2011 Frances Michael, 74, died Tuesday, March 8, at her home surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born Frances Priscilla Pena March 6, 1937, to Irene and Ted Pena in Springerville. Mrs. Michael was a longtime resident of Grants, N.M., where she and her husband raised their family. They were business owners in Cibola County in partnership with the Michael family. For many years they worked together developing and operating the Michael Ranch, north of San Mateo, N.M. They operated Michael's Western Wear, Michael's Women's Wear and the Michael Plaza shopping center until 1981, when they moved to Albuquerque, N.M. There they operated the Don Alberto's Restaurant until Mr. Michael died in 1983. Mrs. Michael later worked for the All Faiths Receiving Home in Albuquerque, and cared for others as a CNA and Senior Ombudsman until she became ill in July 2010. Frances had many accomplishments, but the things that gave her the most pleasure in life was preparing and sharing a good meal with family and friends. Mrs. Michael lived her life as a follower of Christ with the following favorite scripture from Jeremiah 31:3 "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee." She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Michael of Grants, N.M.; parents Irene and Ted Pena; brothers: Edward Pena, Robert "Bobby" Pena and David Pena; sisters: Mary Alice Jewell and Millie Chavez, and five nieces and nephews. Mrs. Michael met her husband in Grants, N.M. in 1955. They are survived by their seven children: Albert Marty Michael (Rosalyn) of Questa, N.M., Therese Musick (Kevin) of Clovis, N.M., Alan Michael of Clovis, N.M., Beverly Michael and Jim Evans of Grants, N.M., Theodore "Teddy" Michael (Bernadette) of Grants, N.M., Christopher "Chris" Michael (Marcella Jaramillo) of Espanola, N.M., and Carl Michael (Stephanie) of Clovis, N.M.; grandchildren: are Jennifer and Brian Crowder, Justin and Jana Musick, Jessica and Ronnie Williams, Allison Michael, Marisa Michael, Carl Michael Jr., Makayla Michael, Isaiah Angel Michael, Dustin Hatch, Jimmy Michael and Christine Molina, Monica and Johnny McCarty, and William and Angel Garza; great grandchildren are Madyson Crowder, Mayson Crowder, Maylon Crowder, Daisy Williams, Makenna Musick, Melody Musick, Juanito Molina, Robert McCarty, William McCarty, Mariah McCarty, Jeremy Punte, and Monique Garza. She is also survived by her sisters: Virginia (Bill) Long of Grants, N.M., Thelma Jaramillo of Grants, N.M., Karlene (Jimmy) Ochoa of Mesa, Jackie Pena of Bernalillo, N.M., and her brothers Ted Pena of Los Lunas, N.M., Jimmy Pena and Joey Pena of Albuquerque, N.M., Pete Pena of Tucson; and 40 nieces and nephews. Rosary was held Thursday, March 10, at her parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis, N.M., with the Mass of the Resurrection Friday, March 11. Mrs. Michael was laid to rest beside her husband at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque, N.M. Saturday, March 12. Pallbearers were Marty Michael, Alan Michael, Teddy Michael, Chris Michael, Carl Michael Sr., Jimmy Michael, Justin Musick, Carl Michael Jr., Brian Crowder, and Ronnie Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Pena, Pete Pena, Jimmy Pena, Joey Pena, Jim Evans and Kevin Musick. Arrangements were under the direction of Steed-Todd Funeral Home, 800 E.
