CHASE, Robert (Bob) Ernest


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 15, 2011 Robert "Bob" Ernest Chase of Lakeside died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, after a long struggle with many health issues. He was born May 6, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Robert F. and Emma Chase. Bob married Gloria Teeter Feb. 9, 1951, who preceded him in death in July 2005. He was raised in a logging family and lived many places, mostly in the Northwest, while growing up. He graduated from high school in Buhl, Idaho in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950. He spent part of his training and tour in Tacoma, Wash., San Antonio, Texas, and Germany. Upon returning home, he and Gloria purchased their first home in Stanley, Idaho, and he resumed working in the family sawmill business. Following a knee injury and having surgery, Bob moved to Buhl, Idaho, where he started working as a sales agent in the insurance business. In 1962 Bob moved to Tacoma, Washington, and became a successful insurance broker. He felt very strongly about the importance of insurance and took a personal interest in all of his clients. He received numerous awards as an outstanding insurance salesman, broker, and general agent. While living in Tacoma, Bob continued his love of the outdoors by boating, fishing, and camping throughout the Puget Sound area. In 1972 after the death of his father, Bob moved to Lakeside, to run the small sawmill and established Chase Logs and Lumber. They built several custom log homes in the White Mountain area and sold house logs to other local builders. In 1979 Bob and Gloria purchased an RV and started traveling part time. Eventually they transitioned to full time and enjoyed 25 years wintering in Yuma and spending summers split between Lakeside, Arizona, and Glenwood, Washington. Bob moved to Solterra Senior Living Center in Lakeside in Oct. 2008. He enjoyed his life there making many friends with the residents and staff. Bob always believed in people, treated everyone with respect, and brought out the best in them. He is known by many as a good friend and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Bob is survived by his son, Matthew (Tracy) Chase of Lakeside; grandsons, Nathan and Nick Chase; daughter Christine (Gary) Anderson of Glenwood, Wash.: granddaughters: Carren (John) Tallman of Goldendale, Wash., Jennifer Oliver of Benton City, Wash., and Diana Anderson of San Diego, Calif. He also is survived by five great-grandchildren: Arrow, Tanner, and Tori Tallman and Dane and Garrett Oliver. A memorial celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Soltera Senior Living Center in Lakeside. Friends and family are invited to attend and share in this celebration.
