March 01, 2007 Sophia C. Maher SOPHIA C. MAHER, 97 TUCSON, Ariz. - Sophia C. Maher, 97, of Tucson Ariz., formerly of Rockford, Ill., died Jan. 25, 2007. Born Oct. 28, 1909, in Poland to John Chojnicki and Josephine Raszkiewic. Came to America in 1914, at the age of 5. Attended Rockford schools, married and moved to Tucson where she was employed by the University of Arizona. She is survived by grandson, Steven Maher of Tucson; daughter-in-law, Pat Maher of Tucson; sisters, Genevieve Bronoski, Joann Rupsis and Caroline Jurasek of Rockford; brother, Paul (Alice) Chojnicki of Rockford and sister-in-law, Adele Chojnicki of Loves Park, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son, John "Larry" Maher; her parents; two sisters and three brothers. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N. Fifth St., Rockford, with Father Dean Russell officiating. Visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. Rockford Register Star Rockford, IL
