Vera Carter of Kirkland died Wednesday, January 25 in Prescott. She Was 91.
Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Arizona, moving to the state with her parents from Santa Fe, New Mexico when she was a 5 month old infant. She was born August 26, 1903 in Santa Fe.
In 1915, her parents, James and Mae Jackson moved from Glendale to Prescott.
Over the years, Mrs. Carter enjoyed reading and traveling. She was an authentic ranch wife who loved gardening; she had some of the best vegetable and flower gardens in the area and she also raised poultry.
Mrs. Carter was a graduate of the University of Arizona and she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority while attending the U of A. While at the university she was a member of the girls basketball and swimming teams and also the U of A Debating Team.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the Women’s Club of the Kirkland chapter of the Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was the librarian in Kirkland and also a member of various county boards.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Lee and Victoria Carter of Kirkland; grandson Justin Lee and granddaughter Valerie Carter; great-grandsons Jeremy and Grant; and great-granddaughters Renata and Karra Carter.
Services were Saturday, January 28 at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott.
