Oval Greenmyer of Wickenburg died February 5 in Sun City. He was 77.
Mr. Greenmyer was born July 27, 1917 in McCurtain, Oklahoma. He had lived in Arizona for the past 45 years, coming from Oklahoma.
Mr. Greenmyer was a radio operator on B-17s, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant, and served in the Normandy Campaign Air Offensive Europe Campaign.
Mr. Greenmyer was a decorated veteran of World War II, being awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Battle Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Greenmyer was a farmer for most of his life, primarily farming cotton in Oklahoma and Arizona. He enjoyed hunting, reading western novels and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Oleta of Wickenburg; daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Dough Mc Donald of Trabuco, California and Jo and Rich Viau of Tucson; sons and daughters-in-law Eddie and Barbara Greenmyer of Wickenburg and David and Kathy Greenmyer of Wickenburg; sisters Clara Scognis of Stockton, California, Ruby Stevens of Nipomo, California, Melba Spears of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dotty Short of Begdes, Oklahoma and LaVonne Todd of Liberty Mounds, Oklahoma; brothers John Henry Greenmyer Jr. of Semions, Oklahoma and Darrel Greenmyer of Conroe, Oklahoma; grandchildren Eddie, Charla, Steven, Charlotte, Le Ann, Greg, Jorja and Jozie; step-grandchildren Bobby, Belinda, Wednesday and Tuesday; 34 nieces and nephews; 63 grand-nieces and nephews; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Henry and Hattie Leona Spradling Greenmyer; brothers Orval, his identical twin, another brother Alfred; and sisters Allie and Vera Cleveland.
Funeral services are scheduled for 8 a.m. today (Wednesday, February 8) at Frey Funeral Home and cremation Service. Pastor Gary Golike will officiate.
Burial follow in the VA National Cemetery in Phoenix.
