Bonnie Jean George of Blackfoot, Idaho and a winter resident of Wickenburg, died February 18 at Boswell Hospital in Sun City West. She was 68.
Mrs. George was born April 19, 1926 in Shelley, Idaho. She had been a winter resident in Wickenburg for the past seven years.
Mrs. George grew up on a farm in Wapello, Idaho. She attended Blackfoot High School, graduating in 1942. She worked as a secretary for Farmers Home Administration, then moved to LeGrande, Oregon and worked as a secretary to the president of a local bank.
She later moved back to Blackfoot and married D. LaVerl “Bert” George in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the LDS Temple on June 26, 1946. She then worked as a secretary for American Potato Co. for 28 years. Mrs. George retired in 1988. She and her husband wintered in Wickenburg and spent their summers in Blackfoot.
She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving many callings including teacher and officer in the Relief Society, Sunday School teacher, MIA, ward choir conductor and member, and also stake librarian.
She was well known for her photography and crafts.
Survivors include her husband D. LaVerl “Bert” George; sons and daughters Brenda Cox, Nicholette Parsons and Craig George of Blackfoot, Sherry Meanea of Richfield, Utah, Kara Oberstadt of Seattle, Washington and Michael George of Salt Lake City; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Billye Louise Smith of Tacoma, Washington and Nadine Wasley of Idaho Falls.
Services were held February 23 at the Sun City LDS Ward. Bishop Blaine Bradshaw officiated. Burial followed in the Groveland Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all arrangements.
