Pierre Pouquette of Williams and a lifetime resident of Williams and Wickenburg, died February 21 in Phoenix. He was 78.
Mr. Pouquette was born in 1917 in San Francisco, California and was a member of one of Arizona’s first families. Mr. Pouquette attended school in the historic “Little Red Schoolhouse” Garcia School in Wickenburg and graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1935.
Mr. Pouquette married Mary Kerkes in 1940.
Mr. Pouquette lived in both Williams and Wickenburg, dividing his time between the two communities. He was a self-employed cattle and sheep rancher. For many years, twice each year he would drive sheep from Wickenburg to Williams, a journey of three months. Mr. Pouquette was a member of the Arizona Wool Growers Association and St. Joseph’s Church in Williams.
Survivors include his wife Mary Pouquette of Williams; daughters Melanie Daughtery of Phoenix, Annette Bingham of Yuma and Denise Payne of Williams; sister, Marie Lund; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Pierre, grandson Michael Pierre Payne and brother, Albert.
A funeral mass was February 24 in St. Joseph’s Church in Williams. Burial followed in the Williams Cemetery.
Whitney and Murphy Aracadia Funeral Home in Phoenix was in charge of all arrangements.
