The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 8, 1995, p. 3 Meda Stokes of Yarnell died March 5 in Wickenburg. She was 93. Mrs. Stokes was born April 3, 1901 in Tillamook, Oregon. She had lived in Arizona for most of her life, moving here 80 years ago from Oregon. Mrs. Stokes and her family moved to Arizona in 1916, settling on a ranch in the Aguila area and opened the Gold Leaf Mine. The mine was later renamed the Nella Meda Mine and is now Robson’s Mining World. The Stokes family hunted, trapped and worked the mine. Mr. and Mrs. Stokes later owned a farm in Gilbert, with cotton, flax, barley, alfalfa and some citrus, until their retirement in 1950. After selling the farm the couple traveled extensively, visiting almost every state in the union until Mr. Stokes’ death. In her later years, Mrs. Stokes enjoyed walking around the Yarnell area. Survivors include her nephew Ray Moore and his wife Kathy, of Congress; and great-nephews Alan Moore of Glendale, Mark Moore of Congress and Jack Moore of Scottsdale. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church. Pastor Milton Ensley, Jr. will officiate. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of all arrangements.
