DONNELLY, Bernard L. (Blackie)


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 15, p. 2 Bernard L. “Blackie” Donnelly of Wickenburg died March 11 in Sun City West. He was 79. Mr. Donnelly was born August 25, 1915 in Rensselaer, Indiana. He had lived in Arizona for 23 years, coming here from California. Mr. Donnelly was a 20 year career Navy veteran, who served during World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1960 as Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate. Mr. Donnelly was artistically inclined and created unique chip-carved pottery under the name “Black Jack.” Mr. Donnelly was an active member of St. Anthony of Pauda Catholic Church of Wickenburg and was known as the Good Samaritan at the church and at Country Club Mobile Home Park, where he lived. Mr. Donnelly was preceded in death by his wife Teddy in 1991; and his brother Richard in 1993. Survivors include his daughter Connie Reed of Pensacola, Florida; sister Rose Cholis of Mishawaka, Indiana; sister-in-law Helen Donnelly of Rensselaer, Indiana; and five grandchildren. A funeral mass was held Tuesday (March 14) at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with Mr. Donnelly’s good friend, Fr. Mathew Mampara officiating. Frey Funeral Home and cremation Service was in charge of all arrangements.
