Lawrence “Larry” Pollander of Glendale, and a former Wickenburg resident, died March 6 at Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He was 78.
Mr. Pollander was born December 21, 1916 in North East, Maryland. He had lived in Arizona for the past 24 years.
Mr. Pollander was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a chip’s cook. Following his naval service, he was involved in the California National Guard.
He married Sybil Copeland in 1939, and was the owner and operator of a dry cleaning business in California for most of his life. He was also a tailor for the business. When Mr. & Mrs. Pollander lived in Wickenburg, they managed Country Club Park in 1972.
Mr. Pollander accepted Christ as his savior while living in Wickenburg, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sybil P. Pollander of Peoria; daughter Rebecca Hand of Auberry, California; sisters Minnie Bartolovic of Pomona, California and Anne Henry of Wayne, Pennsylvania; brother Fred Pollander of St. Petersburg, Florida; and grandsons Dan Hand and Mark Hand.
Services were Friday, March 10 at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City. Pastor Bert Follmar officiated.
Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
