Mae Vinyard-Allen of Congress died at her home in Congress on January 17. She was 89. Mrs. Allen was born March 4, 1905 in Texarkana, Texas.
She taught for the Singer Sewing Co. before marrying and was accomplished in sewing, embroidery, tatting, crochet, quilting and cooking. She was raised in the Christian Church.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Les. C. Allen, who died in April 1993.
Mae and Les Allen lived in Long Beach, California for 20 years before moving to Arizona 20 years ago, first to Yarnell and then Congress, where they owned the S Lazy A Ranch. The couple also owned the Parker Dam Fishing Village.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Jean and Bob Gee of Washington; granddaughter Linda Jeannae of California; and an extended family of more than 30 children, grandchildren, grandnieces, brothers and sisters-in-law, all of California and Washington. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her niece Ann Harding, who she raised from childhood.
At Mrs. Allen’s request, no public series were held. Her ashes were scattered over the desert in mid-April by 12 of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
