The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ May 17, 1995, p. 3 Ray L. Messenger of Wickenburg died May 13 in Wickenburg. He was 83. Mr. Messenger was born September 30, 1910 in Indiana. He had lived in Arizona for the past 23 years, moving to Morristown in 1972 from Illinois. In Illinois, Mr. Messenger worked 39 years as a car inspector for the state railroad department, retiring in 1971. He and his wife Louise lived at the Bucking Horse Ranch until February 1993 before moving to Wickenburg. Mr. Messenger loved children, enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. Mr. Messenger had been an active member for 23 years of Calvary Baptist church. He had been a resident of the Wickenburg Nursing Home. Survivors include his wife Louise of Wickenburg; daughters Joyce Sandefer of Illinois and Marcy Reeves of Indiana; grandchildren Tammy, Tim and Curtiss; step-children Larry, Jim, Nancy and Duane; niece Phyllis Wolfe of Phoenix; and nephew Larry Messenger of Arizona. Services were held Tuesday (May 16) at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Gary Golike and Associate Pastor Bill Root officiated. Private disposition will be conducted in Illinois at a later date. The family has requested that all memorial contributions in Ray Messenger’s name be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 930 N. Tegner St., Wickenburg, AZ 85390, where the funds will be used to support local church missionaries Wes Stewart and Vince Trujillo. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
